Cameron Beauregard - Guitars/Bass/Drums/Keyboards/Saxophone/Keytar
Cameron Beauregard is Fashion The Cactus and Fashion The Cactus is Cameron Beauregard. And what Fashion The Cactus exactly is... is undefinable. Got it?
Cameron completely reinvent himself musically every album, jumping from ska-metal-funk on Fashion's self-titled debut to 80's Euro-pop on the lauded sophomore effort, Beware Of Safety! Not only that, but each song - and the project's name - comes from sentences from other languages translated into English. Cameron got the idea for the band from a tourist's t-shirt while working at a Six Flags (Disneyland Paris?) amusement park as a teen.
Cameron had been writing songs for a few years, incorporating his "Beautiful Mind" encyclopedic knowledge of musical genres to varying degrees of local success, but didn't know which direction to go: become a nerdy-yet-proficient one-man jam band, or a proper musical project? Lyrics became the bane of Cameron's existence until he happened upon a wealth of inspiration on websites curating the phenomenon known as "engrish", the same concept as the t-shirt that became the band's name. "Translation of one language into English becomes a completely new dialect or even an entirely new language, because some terms are untranslatable," explains Cameron. "This new language brings a flood of song ideas, and I take it even further by writing lyrics in English, translating them into another language. then translating them back into English. We will never run out of inspiration, because humanity will never stop communicating."
